Emotional and Cognitive Processes Associated with the Statements of Motivational Interviewing
Time & Location
16 May 2022, 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm HKT
About the Event
We are glad to have invited our members Dr. Karen HUI to share with us her MI study and Ms. Choi Fong SIU to share with us her MI work with a patient with diabetes.
Part I: Small lecture on motivational interviewing and neuroscience by Dr Karen HUI
Cognitive neuroscience is the scientific field that is concerned with the study of the biological processes and aspects that underlie cognition, with a specific focus on the neural connections in the brain which are involved in mental processes. This presentation is a cognitive neuroscience study that used event-related potential to investigate the neural processes associated with the perception of the linguistic contents of the MI statements. The results revealed the importance to assess the clients’ readiness stages and their emotional state in order to enhance the effect of the intervention.
Part II: Work Sample Discussion
We shall listen to a work sample (in Cantonese) shared by Ms Choi Fong SIU on her MI work with a patient with diabetes. (No recording is allowed to maintain confidentiality.) Participants can do the coding with the use of MITI manual*, followed by group discussion.
* Members or non-members who have received coding training are encouraged to join and refresh their coding skills. Those who are new to MI coding are also welcome.
Don’t miss this wonderful event to learn more about MI!
