About the Event

Join Us for the CAMI Forum on “Mindfulness, MI and behavioral change”

We are pleased to invite 2 MINT members, Mr. Ka Tsun TING and Dr. Stanley CHAN to share their expertise on applying mindfulness to promote behavioral change and also lead an exploration and discussion with us how the mindfulness we experience compares to MI in this area.

Part 1: Topic Sharing

There is a growing interest in the application of mindfulness-based intervention in promoting behavioral change. In part 1, there will be a brief introduction on what mindfulness is and how mindfulness might promote behavioral change. In mindfulness-based intervention, it values experiential learning. Therefore, apart from sharing of research and theory, members will also be invited for 1-2 mindful practices to have a first-hand experience on mindfulness.

Part 2: Group Discussion

“Inquiry” is the heart of the learning in mindfulness-based intervention apart from the mindful practice. “Inquiry” describes the communication between the mindfulness teacher and the participant. In this “Inquiry” process, mindfulness teacher makes a genuine connection with the participant and explore with the participants about their here-and-now experiences, while embodying those attitudinal foundations (e.g. kindness, openness) throughout the process. In part 2, a brief introduction on “Inquiry” would be given. Members will be invited for a discussion on the similarities and differences between motivational interviewing and “Inquiry” in mindfulness-based intervention.

We hope to see you in the forum and have a fruitful exchange of ideas.
